Nintendo Wii U weet!

Nintendo introduced a new paradigm for video games and home entertainment: Wii U™, a new console that includes a controller with a 6.2-inch screen. Adding a second screen to the living room creates a multitude of new video game experiences while offering families a variety of options to customize their entertainment.

Looks just as cool as when Nintendo launched their Wii for the first time. It is a resistive touch screen with pressure sensitivity, just like the DS. Lack of multitouch looks like a missed opportunity. Seems like they went all out with the specs on this one, to target hardcore gamers. This will be launching in 2012, so Microsoft and Sony has plenty of time to catch up.

This should be enough to get you started for The PC Show 2011 (9-12 Jun)

The annual PC show is back this coming weekend and like any IT fair/shows in Singapore, it is sure to attract a ginormous crowd. Be sure to arm yourself with the required resources and details before you rush into Suntec Convention Center and squeeze with the rest of the folks.

Here’s a list of sites which can aid you:

Check out the realistic Thunder Run Tank in Battlefield3! 1080p

Be sure to catch the trailer in its full glory (1080p) on youtube itself.
The realism in the graphics is truly amazing!

Imagine playing an FPS with 2 players on the same display without split screen

Media_http1876voxcdnc_igddr

The big draw, though, is its unique two-player mode, where each player sees a different image on the same screen (care of Sony’s special multi-use 3D glasses). The specs, charged via micro USB, let you switch between players one and two with just one button up top. They’re quite light and fit well — without prescription glasses underneath, at least (we didn’t get to test that).

Brilliant idea. Another use for active shutter technology or potentially LG’s polarized glasses technology that isn’t about stereoscopy.

Straits Times to launch subscription services on iOS?

While watching yesterday’s keynote at WWDC I noticed a little piece of information that might be of interest to Singaporeans. When Scott Forstall was talking about magazine and newspaper subscriptions he brought up an image full of logos of companies that have signed up with Apple to provide subscription services.

Love it or hate it, it looks like we might be getting the full version of the Straits Times pumped into our iPads soon.

The mother of all WWDC keynotes

Apple just dropped the mother of all WWDC keynotes, and they really kept to their agenda. Lion, iOS5 and iCloud. No hardware releases at all.

Lion

Nice new features, similar to previous major OS X upgrades: mission control, full screen apps, multitouch etc. What’s not so standard is the low low price of US$29.99, putting it on par with the previous “minor” Snow Leopard upgrade.

iOS 5

This was truly where the keynote blew my mind. An entirely new way of showing app notifications, putting it finally on par with Android. Apple also included a few new features like tabbed browsing in Safari, Reminders and iMessage that could easily kill off developers with similar functioned apps, and some decidely un-Apple ones such as using the volume button as a shutter in Camera. The biggest feature in my opinion is the cutting of the cord. No more syncing with your computer once you get an iOS device. All syncing is now done over the cloud. Even iOS upgrading will be done over the air.

Update: In the iOS 5 video there is a mention of AirPlay mirroring. Huge feature for those with Apple TVs. You can now play games and show webpages on the big screen without the need for a cable.

iCloud

Apple finally caught up with Google on cloud services, and they’re really aggressive. They finally realised no one likes to pay for cloud services, and is charging absolutely nothing for iCloud. iCloud syncs documents, photos, mail, calendars, contacts, music, books and apps across all your Apple devices, and even windows PCs.

Visited the Lasalle Grad Show today.

Photo_3

Popped by Lasalle College today to check out the works by the new graduates. I was particularly impressed with some of the design communication works. It is a colossal collection of works so do go early if you want to appreciate them all!

The show goes on till 9th June at the Lasalle College of the Arts.

My feeble attempt at printsgram.com #instagram

Printsgram.com allows you to create posters made out of your Instagram photos in PDF format. I then opened it in Illustrator an printed in tiles and stuck them all together using tape. It’s actually more crude than it looks in the pictures but that’s because of my eagerness to piece the tiles together. The site also allows you to create cubes printed with Instagram photos. I’m actually tempted to send the file to a print shop to get a professionally printed poster.

All new ‘Versus Survival’ game mode in L4D2

Versus Survival
Can you survive against your friends?

The first Survivor team sets the time. The second team tries to beat it. Then the first team tries to beat the second team’s time. Then the second team tries to beat the first team’s time. And then the… you get the idea. Rounds keep switching until someone fails to beat the previous time.

This is a great way to try Versus. Rounds are only as long as you can keep beating each others’ times. There are no rushing Survivors. Infected spawns get quicker as the time increases. It is mayhem filled with all the weapon perks and items. What’s not to like? Give it a try.

As avid L4D-ers, my buddies and I gave this new insertion a go from the very moment it was made available through the update.

This Versus Survival is simply your survival mode with the exception of an opposing human team playing as infected to mar your chances of survival.

What I feel is that the concept is interesting, however, it has room for improvements. Prior to this update, most of the best ‘Survival’ maps, I played were from the custom map makers. (i.e Helms Deep) Hence, if there is an option for custom map makers to be able to create customized versus survival map, it will definitely bring the game to a whole new level.

Till then, its good ol’ Versus games for me.

Never knew handheld printers like these existed till now.

Our NEW product is the portable, manual, ultra-compact and light INK-JET printer equipped with a print-head with electromagnetic valves; it is battery operated and radio-controlled. This unique device - weighing only 980 grams - has been created to satisfy users for whom the freedom of product marking, coding and labeling in terms of place and time is the fundamental criterion.

Not sure if this is old technology, but I was quite convinced for a moment that this wasn’t real.

I just bought “Back to the Future” a few days ago on the AppStore, and now it’s free.

Media_httptoucharcade_bvgjc

I seldom play adventure games, so I bought this because I’m a huge Back to the Future fan. Pretty solid gameplay, and the voice acting is fantastic. Christopher Lloyd voices Doc, and I’m not sure who voices Marty, but he really sounds like Marty in the films. Also, it may not look like it from the screenshots, but the game is actually in realtime 3D, and it looks really good. But hey, you don’t need any convincing since it’s free. Get it on the AppStore!

We’re on Google Wave now!

Apple did it again.

A few hours ago, the Singapore Apple store was down. As expected, the new Polycarbonate Macbook, a new multitouch mouse called the Magic Mouse and refreshed iMacs and Mac Minis were launched. Check them out at www.apple.com.

On an unrelated note, I’m looking for a buyer for my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse.

Tech, toys & titbits.
