iPad 3 Expected to Launch in Around March/April - Mac Rumors

DigiTimes reports that Apple's next generation iPad will become available in about 3-4 months. The publication's supply chain sources indicate that the next generation iPad parts are starting to ramp up while the iPad 2 production is starting to decline.

OEM production of iPad 2 will remain high at 14-15 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011 but decline to 4-5 million units in the first quarter of 2012, paving the way for the launch of the new iPads, the sources noted.

Volume production is expected to start in February and reach 9.5-9.8 million units in the first quarter of 2012.

March or April should come as no surprise to regular Apple followers. While Apple first announced the original iPad in Jan 2010, the company didn't start shipping the first units to customers until April. In 2011, the iPad 2 was announced around the same time of year.

The iPad 3 is widely expected to carry a high resolution "Retina" display.

As expected the iPad 3 will probably make its debut in the first quarter of the year. It should reach our shores by mid to late April, hopefully. Looking forward to the much awaited "retina" display.

Customize your iPhone Message tones.

Isn't it fustrating that every other person on the bus or train is using the same iPhone message tone and not knowing who's phone actually made the alert? Tri-tone and Glass has got to be the most common message tones heard in public.

One of the many new features of iOS5 is the ability to customise your iPhone Message tone. Similar to the Custom Ringtones which you can set previously, the Message tone is also in the .m4r format. There are a number of ways to go about making your own ringtones and message tones but if you are lazy, you can browse sites such as free-ringtones.cc to download tones that you want.
After you have downloaded the custom tones, simply add them to your iTunes library, sync wirelessly (another feature of iOS5) to your iPhone and voila! You now have custom message tones on your iPhone to choose from.

Apple Building Cheaper 8GB iPhone 4, End of September Launch Alongside iPhone 5 - Mac Rumors

Reuters revives rumors that Apple is building a lower priced 8GB version of the iPhone 4 to launch this fall. Reuters cites "two people with knowledge of the matter".

The flash drive for the 8GB iPhone 4 is being manufactured by a Korean company, one of the people said on Tuesday, declining to name the company. Apple currently sources its flash drives from Japan's Toshiba and South Korea's Samsung Electronics.

In addition to this low cost iPhone 4, Apple is also said to be targeting "an end of September" launch for the iPhone 5. This new iPhone 5 will reportedly look "largely identical" to the iPhone 4, but have a bigger touch screen, better antenna and an 8-megapixel camera. This contradicts many of the early case designs that have shown a dramatically different form factor.

This news comes at an interesting time, as we've been hearing more from suppliers and seeing leaked parts appear on the web. In addition to the battery prototype photo, UK repair shop iPatchiPods had also told us that their suppliers had also relayed that there would be two such models: a less expensive iPhone 4, as well as the expected iPhone 5. Due to the simultaneous development, there could be some confusion with regard to parts appearing on the net. While many are claimed to be for the iPhone 5, there may be some that are intended for this low-cost iPhone 4. In one example, the back camera part that leaked yesterday was found to be a 5 megapixel part, not an 8 megapixel part as rumored. It's possible the part could be intended for this cheaper iPhone 4.

In fact, the low-cost iPhone 4 screen is already circulating in the hands of suppliers, and we are trying to get more information on it and other potential iPhone 5 parts.

More updates on iPhone 5 and also iPhone 4 8gb to be launch in Sept. Hang Tight.

Measure your heart rate using the iPhone camera

This app, Instant Heart Rate by Azumio allows you to measure your heart rate using the iPhone camera. It does so by shining the iPhone flash LED and detecting the changes in colour on your finger placed on the iPhone camera lens. I was skeptical until I tried it and it really works (I think)! Well worth the 99 cents, if you don't mind smudging your camera lens every now and then.
